Market Place Design
Following a day of interviews in the meeting room at Barrow Squash Club (excellent facilities, by the way) we were unanimous in selecting 2B Landscape Consultancy of North Cave to work with us on the next stage of the project. They have a wealth of experience and are very enthusiastic about improving Barrow Market Place and making it a space everyone can enjoy. Their website will give you lots of information and details of other work they have carried out: http://www.2bconsultancy.co.uk/
Their initial designs were based on the feedback we received from the questionnaire, together with conversations and visits to the site. We will now refine those ideas and when they have been turned into visual form, bring them to the community for consultation. We intend to stage an Open Day at a venue in the village where people can come and chat and leave their comments, details of which we will advertise on the website and through posters and emails.
We also intend to present a summary of progress so far at the Annual Parish Meeting on April 3rd.
Funds: We have been fortunate to access a small grant of £5,000 to enable us to pay initial architects fees and other costs including room hire, printing and publicity, to which we have added funds raised in the village through events such as the cake stalls. One item you will see fairly soon is a Better Barrow notice board which will be situated next to the boards by the Post Office. Thanks to everyone who has helped in our various fund-raising activities. And while we’re on the subject, well done Sarah Rusby, who won the ‘guess Paddington Bear’s birthday’ competition!
Our group will celebrate its official birthday shortly and will be holding its first Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 26th March at 7.30 in the Vicar’s Rooms. We do hope you will come along if you possibly can – it won’t be a long meeting and it’s always good to meet you.
Wheelbarrow Trail and Open Gardens
Put the weekend of June 8th-9th in your diary. We intend to hold the Wheelbarrow Trail again and add an Open Garden option too. Details about the event will be publicised at the beginning of April, so there will be plenty of time to think about your barrow – or just to make sure you’re in the village to take part in a great community event.
